YARDwork co-working is located in historic Litchfield at the West Street Yard. The original complex of buildings was constructed by George Switzer toward the end of the 19th century and operated as the Switzer Lumber Yard until the 1990s. George Switzer built many of the now-historic colonial revival homes in Litchfield and Switzer’s Lumber Yard was a beloved part of the vitality of town. For years, the elementary school children ran through the Yard as a shortcut to the Community Field. After Switzer ceased operation, the property was in danger of demolition to make room for a modern shopping center.
The property re-opened as West Street Yard in 1998. The charm and historic integrity of the original buildings have been maintained or interpreted, with exposed posts, beams and pipes, blended with all modern amenities. West Street Yard (now home to YARDwork co-working) is a charming retail and professional condominium which provides for the long-term care of the buildings and courtyard under the management of its Association of Owners.
In 2019 YARDwork co-working arrived at the West Street Yard and began to provide a coworking space to Northwestern Connecticut and New York residents. Providing them with a place to save on costs, spark networking and encourage productivity, thus allowing them to focus and concentrate on what they do best: their business!
